India Celebrates the 74th Republic Day

Today, on the 26th January, the proud India celebrates the 74th Republic Day to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution that came into effect in the year 1950 on January 26.

On this day in the year 1930, the Indian National Congress had declared Purna Swaraj (complete home rule).

The main celebration is held at the Kartavya Path (The Path of Duty)( formerly the Raj Path) with the President, Mrs Droupadi Murmu, the supreme commander of the armed forces, taking the salute.

The celebrations signify the unity in diversity of the country and spreads the message of oneness and togetherness with spectacular military and cultural representations.

A colourful parade starting from Vijay Chowk right up to the Red Fort marked the celebrations. A total of 23 tableaux from states, union territories and ministries depicting India’s vibrant cultural heritage, economic and social progress made part of the majestic parade.

This Republic Day celebrations have seen several firsts today-

1. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was the chief guest at the parade. This is the first time an President was so invited. An Egyptian military contingent was made part of the parade for the first time.

2. All weapon systems of the army displayed today have been ‘Made in India.’

3. As a part of efforts to drop colonial-era vestiges, the indigenous 105-mm Indian Field Guns (IFG) has replaced the British-era 25-pounder guns for the symbolic 21-gun salute to the President of India and the National Flag on Republic Day.

4. Women soldiers guarding the desert border with Pakistan was the part of the BSF camel contingent and a woman officer posted at a strategic base led the Navy’s contingent of 144 navy sailors showcasing the Nari Shakti (Women Empowerment).

5. The street vendors, vegetable vendors, milk vendors and labourers etc from the lower segment of the society were invited to chair the first rows of the function to assure them that they are also in the mainstream of the society.

We have succeeded as the largest democratic republic, because so many religions, castes, creeds, races, cultures, traditions, languages and dialects have not divided us, but only united us as one nation. This is the essence of India:

28 states
8 union territories
30 major festivals
22 languages
19500 dialects
but country is one, that’s India.

We wish to move ahead unitedly to make the dreams of our great freedom fighters come true with belief in
वसुधैव कुटुंबकम्
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
(the whole world is a family)

Happy Republic Day 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

  2. Thank you, Kaushal, for such an excellent tribute to your beloved country, India.
As you know, it is my favorite country, and to read the list of “the first”
and watching the video makes me very happy on this special day. The economical and military development, and the raising prestige of India in the world’s consciousness, is to me proof, if ever needed, that India is true,
God’s chosen country. It leads the world with its mantra: “The World is One Family”, which greets the visitors on the wall of the Indian Parliament in New Delhi. Let me quote one renowned visitor who wrote:
“But visit India and nothing will ever be the same again.”

    .Happy Republic Day!
