Longing and Belonging

We remain oblivious,
of scenes so vivid around us,
of sharp winds blowing outside,
of shivering vibrations nearby
in the desolate courtyard,
our choked sights can’t see
the bowls of pains and sufferings…

The thick skin endures all slaps,
till our stupidity scales the pinnacle,
till these don’t touch us
or adversely affect us personally,
we find everything crystal clear,
as we take crystal as prism
to see reflections
of colours of our own choice,
to see stars even in the black kohl,
to keep away any wrong from us…

But can we remain so insulated?
Pains of minds and bodies
reflected in twitching eyes
and quivering lips
turn into boats of frustrations
that keep moving
and may hit any shore anytime…

The strength of hidden power
of the potential energy
never emerges unless provoked
by either side,
and when it does,
it breaks all boundaries
to give and take
to erase spots of tears
in the calm longing of eyes…

This is a provocative question. Insulated. Can we. Fantastic introspection. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Thank you, Kaushal, for this thought-provoking, full of deep-meaning, beautifully worded poem about the vagaries of life. Your ingenious idea of illustrating your thoughts with an old street lamp only half-working added to your words admirably. Thank you again!

    1. Thank you so much, Joanna, for your kind words and unwavering support. Glad you liked the picture. That lamp appears to be half-working, simply because the rising sun has come to its rescue.

  3. Deeply thought out, such a profound look at Life, how we see it, how we miss it and how we kid ourselves that we are living it fully… Love how your mind works Kaushal…You never stay on the surface, but float in the deep end.
