When a whirlwind comes
plants get deflorated and defoliated,
trunks get peeled off their sheaths,
and even uprooted,
mornings and evenings
come and go for a few days,
with no sign of hope for them…
Time passes gradually
taking away some some pangs
of the spooky whirlwind,
soothing breezes
start dusting and caressing them,
fondling their awestruck leaves…

Some of their fruits, flowers, leaves
and seeds that went missing
and got buried in the soil,
get softness of the earth
and come out of the darkness
to dry out the tears of sorrow
to bring back the past smiles
on the faces of their mother plants…
Once again they start enjoying
their lives as usual
as a family of the nature,
marks of memories
of the whirlwind notwithstanding…

My life is no different,
with many marks and scars
in the deep abyss of my heart…

Such is the cycle of life. Beautifully written. I loved how you compared it to your life towards the end of the poem.

When a whirlwind comes” made me immediately think of our friends and family members living in Florida and other southern regions of the US who are now facing another hurricane after battling one just a couple of weeks ago. Whether the whirlwind is internal or external, it is a force to be reckoned with. My thoughts and prayers go out to my friends who are struggling today. 🙏🏼

I had seen on TV hurricane Ian battering the cities of Florida and South Carolina, but I’m not aware whether another is coming so early. My thoughts and prayers are with the people so affected 🙏🙏

Thank you, Kaushal, for this beautiful portrait of destruction and recovery in nature during and after a whirlwind passing.
We all know how big is your heart and so the last paragraph is no surprise, except for its beauty.
