Whenever I see
a surfeit of fresh petals
fallen on the earth
from their mother flowers,
I notice the same sparkle
and smile
of hues and fragrance
that they had
in their full bloom days,
but they fade early
due to separation…
I pick up some
of those beautiful creations
to keep in a pot of water
and I feel freshness again
on their faces
with a gentle touch of love,
but yet after a few days
they fade into oblivion…
…but not those live petals
fallen, rejected and dejected
roaming here and there
in and around us,
who also need
just a gentle touch of love,
to survive their autumn
not to fade or fall again…

A child should not not be separated from his or her mother.

There is a lot of difference between “should” and “is.” Our efforts need to be directed to bridge that gap.
