An Unmatched Smile

I see a girl kid
selling balloons
in her little frail hands
on the roadside…

I buy one
she asks me innocently
take one more
and I take two more
though not needed by me…

I had no knowledge
whether her needs
matched or not,
but in return
I got an unmatched smile
widening to joy
and gratitude
with no words spoken…

Just one expression
saying it all,
coming direct
from a corner of the heart
that may remain elusive
but does exist...

  1. No price on a spontaneous smile…she spoke to you through it Maybe you helped make her quota and she could go home soon, and everyone would be pleased with her.. You were a part of that..and she gifted you her smile as saying “Thank you” A beautiful retelling and a kind gesture on your part to buy a few more too:)

    1. Thank you, Karima! You’re absolutely right. That kind of smile is priceless. In our culture, a little girl is considered to be incarnation of goddess. My heart goes out to a child in this condition, while he or she should be enjoying the luxury of childhood.
