In the rush of life,
when I made some pearls my own
I didn’t know…
Pearls tend to get scattered,
when the thread threading them was broken,
I didn’t know…
When I picked up the scattered pearls
to decorate my eyes with them as dreams,
I didn’t know…
Triggered by memories,
when these pearls trickled down
from my eyes one by one as tears,
I did not know…
I used to have victory laughs,
when I started smiling at my defeats*,
I didn’t know…
When those defeats made and gave me
a bridge to start it all over again,
I didn’t know…

*in Hindi, haar (हार) means both necklace and defeat.

This enchanting poem, Kaushal, is one of your most beautiful and poignant.
Pearls do get scattered, which I know from my life’s experience but one has to move on.
Thank you for this reminder, Kaushal!

Kaushal,
I almost cried when I read this. And when they scatter do we know they are regathered?. Or is a tear or two spilt and we didn’t know?

Thank you, Andrew for such touching words. I admire your sensitivity. Yes, these may be regathered depending upon how and where they fall.

Amazing poetry. How brilliant your metaphor of pearls…as eyes, as tears as dreams strung or loosely falling.
Fabulous piece, Kaushal.😊

I like the flow and transformation.
