I look at the mirror,
but what I find is an obscure image,
and something out of that image,
traverses through the mirror...
And it sits over a seared stalk,
but finds no green leaves,
no bright flowers,
with no chirping
of feathered friends anymore...
It moves to a nearby river bank,
which I used to frequent,
but finds no water,
burbling over smooth rocks,
nothing felt soothing…

It takes a flight
to a high hilly hillock,
but finds no pleasant air,
no peace, no serenity at all...
It starts yelling at high decibel,
why me, why me only?
why others get what I don’t get?
It starts cursing and blaming,
destiny, parents, teachers, God,
and everything else except itself,
totally disgruntled with the doings
and undoings unthought of
but it gets no answer
from any corner…
Tired, it comes back
to my courtyard and sits
in self introspection mode...

There it glances at a plant
growing from a stump
out of ground slab,
and new shoots
coming there
with colourful buds
blooming and blossoming...
I see it coming back to the mirror,
and I find myself there vivid
with enigmatic image gone,
something inscrutable
felt within also
disappearing
gingerly…

It’s a grand poem, Kaushal. A conversation with your other self, the imaginary friends around you and trying in a way to make sense of the world around you!

What a beautiful reflection. Exploration of oneself or perhaps life in general. I love how it came back tired admiring how beauty in the earth, nature found a way to come through. The ending filled with hope and possibility. 🤗 hugs Joni
