Miracles

I had read this story long back, but today on the holy occasion of Merry Christmas, it’s appropriate to share.

An organisation had a tradition of holding a party and a lottery every Christmas eve.

Each employee used to contribute hundred rupees for creation of a fund that the winner would take home. There were around five hundred employees. Thus, a total amount of fifty thousand rupees was raised.

On the Christmas eve, for lottery draw, everyone wrote their names on the slips of paper and put them in the lottery jar.

However, a young man, Sanjay hesitated while writing his own name, as he knew that the son of Kamla, one of the cleaning staff had to be operated, but she did not have the required money to pay for the operation. Kamla was quite perturbed about his only son.

So, even though he knew that the chance of winning was slim, one out of 500, Sanjay wrote the name of Kamla on the slip.

The tense moment came. The CEO doubled in the lottery jar, and finally drew out a note. Sanjay kept praying in his heart for Kamla’s win.Then the CEO announced the winner’s name, and a miracle happened.

The winner turned out to be Kamla. Cheers broke out in the office, and Kamla rushed to the stage to accept the award. She almost burst into tears and said, ” I am so fortunate and blessed!  With this money, my son now has some hope!”

At the beginning of the party, while thinking about this “Christmas miracle”, Sanjay paced to the lottery jar. He took out a slip and opened it casually. The name on it was also of Kamla.

Sanjay was very surprised. He took out several slips one after another. Although the handwritings on them were different, the names were all the same, Kamla.

His eyes got moistened with tears, as he had seen the Christmas miracle with his own eyes. How can all of them think and do alike without any miracle?

But miracle doesn’t fall from the sky. People like Sanjay are required to create miracles for those who are in a low ebb. And for this, every day is Christmas!!!
