A Resonating Voice

Though the gender issue is no more relevant in the changed environ, it still raises it’s ugly head every now and then in different forms.

Sex selection is one of them. The certain uncouth people find ways to get the prenatal diagnosis results, though it is morally, ethically and even legally wrong. They want to carry on the family name, but can’t trace back their lineage beyond three generations.

The need of the hour is to nip such a nefarious act in the bud, then and there, with an iron hand and a strong voice. I reproduce such a voice hereunder to voice my concerns:

I was thrilled to know I was on the family way,
Three cheers for me, a mother-to-be, yay yay,

Various tests done on me revealed nothing abnormal,
But hubby got an inkling and said silly and unusual,

He was not in favour of having one more girl,
The idea of illegal amniocentesis made my head whirl,

I got mad at him who intended to hit my unborn,
How could he even think of destroying I wished to adorn?

She was now an integral part of me, mine and myself,
I decided to go ahead alone without seeking any help,

My hubby relented when his family came in my favour,
To experience a bigger and higher pleasure together,

I could nourish my soul bringing hope in my courtyard,
Holding my belief and uniqueness in high regard,

Joy of motherhood of bringing in a pious soul is boundless,
Buttressing the resolve for continuity of a better human race..

  1. Beautiful and inspiring poem. A mother has to suffer the same pain throughout nine months when the baby is in her womb and when he or she borns then she feels the same happiness so for a mom it may be boy or girl doesn’t matter both are equal. Well written 👌🌹❣️💐

    1. I’m so happy to go through your response. You are absolutely right that it hardly makes any difference for a mom whether it is son or daughter. Even otherwise, girls are no less than boys in any sphere now. So the preferential treatment to a son carries no relevance now. Thank you, Priti for reading it and sharing your beautiful reflections 😊💐💖
